Associate Vice President (AVP) for Operations
The Office of Research (OR) at Washington State University (WSU) is a constellation of six primary offices and many supporting labs, centers, and institutes. Office of Research supports WSU's land-grant mission by partnering with the university community and other stakeholders to advance, extend, and apply knowledge across the full range of scholarly disciplines. Each office provides particular expertise in different aspects of research support.
As the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Research Operations, you play a key role in fulfilling WSU’s research mission. As a key member of the Vice President for Research’s (VPR) management team, you serve as an advisor to the VPR in a broad array of research strategy, administrative, compliance and security, and other operational activities. You work closely with Office of Research senior staff and supporting staff to carry out the goals and mission of the Office. Support the VPR in performing strategic short- and long-term planning for effective allocation and utilization of OR resources, including staffing levels, space, equipment, material, information systems, and budgetary assets, including strategy for omnibus and minor capital improvement funding. In the absence of the VPR, you serve as second in command for the Office of Research.
You are responsible for leading research operational and administrative initiatives across several offices within the Office of Research and for overseeing compliance with federal and state regulations, all regulatory bodies, and university strategic plans. Your direct reporting units include Research Assurances, IT, Data Management and Research Security, and Pre-award research services, including their budgeting, planning, and overall operations.
